Rainwater systems for gardens are relatively easy to design and construct, especially if you can do the work yourself. The design shown here uses a combination of above-ground and underground piping and is constructed from off-the-shelf parts. Use a strainer filter to keep leaves and debris from clogging up the system and damaging the pump. The hard part was tunneling under the carport to install the 4″ collection pipes. Total cost for a 5000 gallon system is comparable to that of installing a well, so consider your options carefully.
